Summer Camp at Chapters

Every spring, I start thinking about Chapters' summer camp. In about February, I start seeing every post on my facebook feed, every article I read or author I talk to or event kit that comes to the store, as a potential summer camp springboard.  This year, this article that I came across on facebook was my inspiration. http://kidsactivitiesblog.com/56285/outdoor-games

"Lifesize games!" I thought. "How fun would that be!" And then I started listing all the books I could think of that have games in them (and got the rest of the Chapters staff involved), and then the "Where's Waldo in Seward" hunt was born. I contacted author Chris Grabenstein, author of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, which revolves around a game maker's library-based scavenger hunt, about a possible author visit to the store. He can't make it in person, but he created a video just for us. And Brian Albright volunteered to explain the mathematics behind one of our favorite games, Spot It!.

Pretty soon we had our theme, and our week of fun began to come together.

This year our camp will be June 29-July 3. Our theme is "It's all fun and games till someone gets lost in a book." We hope you'll join us as we unravel mysteries, find Waldo, travel to mysterious lands where books can fly, play with our food, design our own "Spot It!" decks and figure out how the game works, go on treasure hunts, and lose ourselves in some great books. We'll have sessions for preschoolers and elementary school age kids, as well as one for the whole family and one or two for big kids and adults.
Ages 4-6 will meet from 10-11:30 in the mornings, Monday-Thursday June 29-July 2.
Ages 6-10 will meet from 1-2:30 in the afternoons, Monday-Thursday June 29-July 2.
Special sessions include a Monday afternoon Spot It! workshop for ages 10 and up, during which Brian Albright will help us unravel the secret to Spot It! and a Friday morning party to kick off the "Where's Waldo in Seward" event.
Our camps are free for everyone, but preregistration is required. Space is limited, so sign up early by downloading the registration form from our website www.sewardchapters.com.
We hope you'll join us for this fun week!
